After another great year for the boating industry that saw popularity and business interest make growth on 2017 figures, there’s plenty to look forward to for the year ahead. Hopefully, you’ve finished looking back on the year that was, and you’re ready to start pushing forwards.

Of course, everyone’s aim for the next twelve months is progression and exposure – you’re probably making a list of the events you can attend to help promote your dealership or brokerage and searching for the key opportunities to make some big wins. To get you started, here are ten of the biggest marine events both internationally and in the UK. You simply can’t miss any of them, so take a good look and seriously consider booking your place in early!

 1.  BOOT Dusseldorf, The Dusseldorf Exhibition Centre, 19th – 27th January

                                           The Dusseldorf Exhibition Centre

One of the world’s biggest and best marine exhibitions which is coming into its 40th-anniversary edition. More than a quarter of a million people attend the show every year which is a truly staggering figure. The show features activities and businesses from all aspects of the marine world including diving, holidays, boardsports, sailing and superyachts. BOOT aims to demonstrate the key trends that will arise in 2019, with talks and workshops form some of the industries biggest names. The show has also been home to European Yacht of the Year since 2001. If there’s anywhere that’ll inspire your business plans this year, it has to be here in one of Germany’s greatest cities.

2.  British Marine Expo, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton, 26th – 27th March

                                           St. Mary’s Football Ground, Southampton

This is British Marine’s primary trading event for the calendar year and is hosted at the impressive home of a Premier League football club. The two-day experience will feature stands for manufacturers and businesses to showcase their products to spectators. There’s the Supply Chain Conference which features extremely useful talks and presentations that aim to advise those businesses-driven minds on how to be successful on all levels of the supply chain – whether your business is small or large. On top of that, the evening will be occupied by the British Marine Trades Association Awards annual dinner, where you can enjoy superb entertainment and food whilst celebrating the successes of 2018 within the UK industry.

3. 2019 Walcon Marina Conference, Bournemouth, 24th – 25th April

A far more niche event, the Marina Conference does exactly what it says on the tin. Focusing on UK seaports and inland marinas, the conference will feature talks on environmental issues, disaster management, management training and even the current BREXIT situation. If your main customer base is in around the marina scene, this will be the biggest event of your year!

4.  Crick Boat Show, Crick Marina, 25th – 27th May

Britain’s biggest inland waterways festival. This is the 20th-anniversary edition of the show which will offer even more for its landmark event. Attractions will include free boat trips for the public to test out life on a narrowboat, a showcase of historic boats for those real enthusiasts to marvel at, a heritage and wildlife workshop, a beer festival with live music and so much more. The sheer scale and range of exhibitors on offer here make SeaWork possibly the handiest marine event on the planet.

6. Southampton Boat Show, Mayflower Park, 13th – 22nd September

You probably don’t need to be reminded about this one – this is, without doubt, the greatest boating festival in the UK. The 10-day lifespan tells you just how popular the show can be, and with star appearances last year from celebrities such as Steve Backshall, The Hairy Bikers and Monty Halls, there’s plenty to get excited about. There are multiple stage performances every day to keep you entertained right the way through. There are over 600 marine brands attending from right across the globe, making it one of the largest marine meetups in existence. It’s very hard to do the show justice on paper so we’d recommend turning up, wandering about and discovering everything for yourself. Step inside a luxurious superyacht and see how the other half live – You really would be a fool to miss out!

7. Monaco Yacht Show – Port Hercules (Monte Carlo Marina), 25th – 28th September

The absolute cream of the yachting world, this one isn’t within everyone’s price bracket but it sure is an experience. The Monaco Yacht Show specialises in all things luxury, providing an open market for the richest superyacht owners worldwide. You’re likely to bump into some very famous faces here whilst taking a look at what’s popular at the very top end of the marine market this year. More than 100 custom made exclusive superyachts will be moored up in the harbour and a third of these will be brand new releases seen for the very first time. It really is the ideal place to gain some inspiration from the market giants.
